“The Salvation Army kept us from becoming homeless.”
our-year-old Kelly wasn’t just battling cancer. She was also facing homelessness.
Tricia, Kelly’s grandma, explains. “All our focus went toward saving the life of our child,” she says. “Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.”
Kelly’s mom owned her own business, but she couldn’t keep it going while caring for her daughter. Tricia stepped up to help, but she was struggling with her own health issues. “It was devastating,” she says.
“All our focus went toward saving the life of our child.”
Thankfully, generous supporters like you caught the family before they fell. Because you give, Tricia could go to The Salvation Army for food and other emergency help. It was a godsend.
“The Salvation Army kept us from becoming homeless,” Tricia affirms.
Today, Kelly’s prognosis is good, and the family looks forward to a brighter future. “We suffered,” Tricia says, “but we came out on the other side through the kindness of total strangers.”
Your kindness helps families — even during their most difficult struggles. Will you be a blessing for another family in need? Thank you so much.
From Active Duty to Actively Healing
homas is no stranger to challenging situations, having served in the Army as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom two decades ago.
When he came home, Thomas struggled with trauma from his time at war. Even though he had a good job and was newly married, he turned to drugs to cope — and his drug use quickly spiraled out of control.
He lost his job. He landed in jail. And when he was released, he found himself homeless.
“If it wasn’t for The Salvation Army, I’d be on the streets …”
That was when a friend suggested The Salvation Army. Thanks to your kindhearted support, Thomas found a place to stay, and support through a special program for veterans.
He believes it saved his life. “If it wasn’t for The Salvation Army, I’d be on the streets using drugs. No doubt.”
Thomas is forever grateful for the help you made possible: “Once I was able to get away from the drugs, everything changed for me,” he says. “This place has really, really helped me out.”
May God bless you for helping us support struggling veterans like Thomas! Please consider making an additional gift to help more neighbors in need, here in our community. Thank you!
You Helped Restore Emily’s Life
mily’s life didn’t turn out how she expected.
She had a good childhood, grew up and got married, and had a son. But even though her life appeared perfect, she was hiding a brutal struggle … with addiction.
Eventually, it caught up with her. Emily’s relationships dissolved. She served time in jail, lost her job, and even found herself on the street.
“I just couldn’t pay the bills anymore. I ended up living in my car,” she recalls. She tried and tried to rebuild, but addiction ruined every attempt. Then, she had a stroke. She knew she needed help.
“The Salvation Army is about healing … I’m proof of it.”
Thanks to your support, Emily found the help she needed at The Salvation Army. Here, she had shelter and so much more.
Her case worker helped her get a bus pass so she could attend physical therapy. Next was a housing voucher so she could find a home of her own.
“The Salvation Army provided me with so much help. It’s more than just a roof over your head and food in your belly,” says Emily. “The encouragement, the structure … it’s all set up to help you make progress.”
Emily just celebrated her 50th birthday with us, and she couldn’t be more grateful for the help you gave her.
“The Salvation Army is about healing, they’re about restoration, and I’m proof of it.”
Thank you for making it possible to help our neighbors heal! Will you consider another gift to change more lives?
