RECIPE

Shrove Tuesday, or Pancake Tuesday, is the day before Ash Wednesday, when Easter’s Lenten season begins. Shrove refers to the confession of sins in preparation for Lent. It’s an old custom on this special day to make pancakes — using up a household’s eggs, butter, and fat, as these foods would be avoided during the Lenten fast.

This simple, hearty, and delicious pancake recipe reflects the season as well as The Salvation Army’s commitment to feeding people in need as efficiently and effectively as possible. We hope you enjoy it — and we invite you to make it a family tradition of your own!
